The Investigation Division consists of four (4) investigators which are responsible for investigating any felony which occurs within the jurisdiction of Lowndes County.
The Investigation Division is supervised by Lieutenant G.L. Hutson. Lt. Hutson has served the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office & its citizens for nineteen (19) years. During this time he has served in several different capacities such as, Patrol, Investigations, Narcotics, & on the Drug Task Force. Lt. Hutson is a military veteran, who served 14 years with the United States Marine Corps and has his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice from Troy University of Montgomery.
Lt. Hutson oversees the daily operation of the Investigations Division.
The other Investigators assigned to the Investigations Division are; Investigator (Inv.) L. Lee, Inv. N. Cognasi, and Inv. J. Marvin. Each of our investigators are veterans of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, & the Air National Guard.
Inv. Lee examines a vast assortment of reported offenses, to include both Person/Property & Sexual offenses. Inv. Lee has served the citizens of Lowndes County for a total of twenty (20) years. During this time he has been assigned to Patrol, Investigations, and served time as the Chief Deputy under a previous administration. Other agencies which Inv. Lee has served with include Butler County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as the Chief Deputy.
Inv. Cognasi is currently assigned to Narcotics & is responsible for all narcotics cases & inquiries from the public. Cognasi’s experience, besides his military service, comes from the Montgomery City Police Department (MPD) where he served for over seven (7) years. During his time with MPD, Cognasi served in Patrol, Robbery Homicide, and Special Victims Unit. Inv. Cognasi is also a FBI certified firearms instructor and is responsible for the training and certification of all Sheriff’s Office employees who carry firearms.
Inv. Marvin has served with MPD, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. During his time as a law enforcement officer, Marvin has been assigned to Patrol, Narcotics, and Investigations and has a total of twelve (10) years of experience. Inv. Marvin is a veteran of the Air National Guard and serves with them to this day.
Inv. Marvin is not only responsible for investigating Person and Property crimes, but has also been assigned to handle all sexual offender registrations for those who reside in Lowndes County.
